07 Feb - Something Different

"And now for something a little bit different" was the title for the meeting on the 7th February with the hope that members would come up with some outrageous pictures which would have shocked judges out of their composure.  Our response was rather cautious, pushing only gently at the boundaries of convention.  No Diane Arbus or Robert Mapplethorpe here!  Unfortunately, due to limited time to prepare the session as a result of the agreement for late submission (on the night for some!) of images, we didn’t use the usual presentation software to project the images (used Windows Photo Viewer – much reduced workload for our Comp Sec who was driving the laptop). This meant that there was a white border round the images which may have been a little distracting to some. Despite this there was a lot of “fair” comment and useful advice for improvement of the image from the floor. Why does milky water cause so much comment in our club – have we been scarred by previous judges???

After the tea break, we welcomed back our member Louise Piper who is currently taking a degree course in Digital Design at Bath Spa University.  Louise described some of her photographic and video projects undertaken in this and also the BTech Media course.  She described the complexities of making even a short video programme and although the cameras have become miraculously smaller and better, the paperwork seems to have multiplied at an alarming rate!
